Dang: Check Out the LARGEST Bottle of Scotch on the Planet

Scotch

It stands at an astonishing 5’11” (on Tinder it’s 6′) and it looks like every bit like a frat boy’s dream… It’s a whopping 311-liters of 32-Year Macallan Single-Malt Scotch Whisky presented by whiskey investors Fah Mai Holdings Group and Rosewin Holdings working together with an independent bottler Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky. They have shattered the Guinness World record for “Largest bottle of Scotch” by a stately 83 liters. The epic draught took over an hour to fill from two sister casks of the rare 32-year Macallan single-malt. As the last drop fell and the massive custom bottle was corked the previous record set by The Famous Grouse in 2012 lay in ruin, bested and fairly beaten.

“To put it into perspective, a single 70-centiliter bottle of original 30-year-old Macallan Oak sells for £4,000 to £5,000 [about $5,500 to $7,000] and a similar independent bottling fetches £3,000 plus [over $4,150],” Fah Mai owner Louis Haseman and Rosewin owner Daniel Monk broke down the numbers in a joint statement.”What we have here in our mega bottle alone is around 444 of those. We’ll leave you to do the maths on this.”

We’ll noodle that out for you: converted to USD you’re looking at a $1.84 million bottle of The Macallan’s famed whisky, which already holds the record for the most expensive bottle ever sold. When the gigantic decanter is sold it should the bottle earn more than $1.8 million at auction (which is a near certainty) 25% of the proceeds will be donated to MarieCurie.org, a UK charity for people facing terminal illness.

“So there you have it… the world’s largest bottle of whisky, containing some of the most expensive single malt available, and bottled by one of the best independent Scotch bottling companies,” said Haseman and Monk, said in a press release.

How To Get Your Hands On Some Of That Sweet Large-Bottle Scotch

The remaining scotch of the two 32-year sister casks from The Macallan will be bottled in smaller-scale replicas of the massive 311-liter vessel adorned with the likenesses of the 11 ‘intrepid’ explorers and athletes the bottle and collection are named for.

“Eleven of the most fearless and adventurous people to walk the earth, featured on the world’s largest bottle of whisky, containing some of the most expensive single malt available, and bottled by one of the best independent Scotch bottling companies,” the release continued.

Only fourteen of the twelve bottle sets are expected to be produced “with each one featuring not only a small replica of the original 311-liter bottle, but also a bottle each dedicated to the 11 explorers that adorn the original.” according to Yahoo’s Mike Pomranz. The pricing for these sets has not yet been released but they will likely claim a tidy sum at auction.
