Crust
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2/3 cup slightly cooled butter
- 4 tbsp slightly cooled butter
- 5 tbsp cold water
Apple Filling
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Crust
Mix flour, butter, and water until proper consistency for pie crust. Divide in half. Shape half of the crust dough into the pie tin, save other half for the top.
Optional: Put a thin layer of jam (any flavor that won't overpower the apple) on the bottom pie crust to prevent it from becoming wet after adding the apple filling.
Filling
Mix together apples, sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour into pie tin.
Optional: Dot with just a few extra (small) pieces of butter evenly.
Top Crust
Form a flat, round crust and fit it over the top of the pie tin. Cut lines into the crust, or simply stab with a fork throughout the top of the crust to create holes. You can create any pattern you want.
Baking
Bake at 450 for 15 minutes.
Reduce oven temperature to 350, continue baking for 35 minutes.
