I’m not sure about you, but I’ve always found the history of ancient Egypt to be absolutely fascinating. Even more so, when you consider the pyramids and all the secrets and mysteries kept locked away in them. Well, now researchers have just gained access to never before seen secret chambers in one of the oldest pyramids to date.

It’s been over 4,400 years since the Egyptian pharaoh Sahura of the Fifth Dynasty was honored by having a pyramid built in his name. Now, scientists from Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg have made an incredible discovery: they’ve uncovered secret rooms inside the pyramid that could yield invaluable insight into its ancient past.

Led by Dr Mohamed Ismail Khaled, the team set out to not only stabilize the pyramid’s substructure and prevent it from collapsing, but also uncover any secrets it contained. To do this, they used 3D laser scanning to create comprehensive maps of both its external areas and internal corridors and chambers.

This allowed them to discover a secret passage leading to eight previously unknown storage rooms.

Although much of the original ceilings and floors were badly damaged, remnants of walls and floors still remain. It’s unclear what was stored in these secret rooms however, evidence suggests that during his reign as pharaoh from 26th century BC to 25th century BC, Sahura had traded with foreign lands, developed a navy and opened up mines.

So who knows what treasures may be discovered as part of this groundbreaking project?

As part of their work on this project, the team sought to restore these storage rooms while striking a balance between preservation and presentation – ensuring both structural integrity for future study and potentially public access.

They hope that their findings will go some way toward revealing more about how exactly Sahura’s Pyramid was constructed all those years ago – something which could revolutionize our understanding of historical development across pyramids structures worldwide.
