It’s that time of year again as “one of the biggest chalk art festivals in the west” kicks off in Reno, Nevada, August 25. This year’s event will be hosted by the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. They have music, too!
Chalk Art & Music Festival
Folks from all over the west are flocking to Reno for their annual display of bohemian masterpieces. This year, “More than 150 chalk artists will be competing for awards and a cash prize.” Each contestant ponies up $10 bucks as an entry fee.

That helps the organizers to “continue to grow this event as well as support the artists that are here.” As co-founder of Liquid Blue Events, Jess Horning, notes, “they’re traveling from all over.”

This year, they have “a variety of different categories.” On Sunday, they’ll have the final judging and award cash prizes. Artists, Jess relates, “will compete in front of professional judges and will be judged on a number of factors, including the best use of color, best use of 3D, best production of a master’s work, and the people choice award.”

Chalk is such an incredibly bold and flexible medium to work with that all sorts of attention grabbing images will appear to be popping up everywhere.

While the fun and music will last all day long over the entire weekend, Sunday at 4:00 p.m. is the main event. “We’re gonna be announcing all the winners throughout the weekend. It’s a great event Friday, they’re gonna build a foundation to the event,” Horning relates.

“Fill in the details on Saturday and then Sunday you can see the beautiful pieces of art at their completion.” Last year’s pieces were stunning. Those are the ones we’re showing here, so as not to spoil the show.

Seventh year for event
The Chalk Art & Music Festival is now in it’s 7th year. Once again, there will be plenty of “live art installations, live music performed by locally known artists, food trucks, craft vendors and a kid zone.”

They have something new this year. A “beer and hard seltzer tasting experience.”

Looking at all that dusty chalk can make a person thirsty. That’s why organizers set up “a couple of beer gardens here that is going to sample more than a couple of dozen beers and seltzers.”

“We also have for the first time 50 craft vendors and shops throughout the event. As well as check out all of the beautiful art.”

You can get your tickets for the chalk art extravaganza on site but you’re also able to line them up ahead of time through their website.
