Made from four whiskeys aged for five, six, eight and 10 years. The new Sweetens Cove 22 is a blended straight Tennessee bourbon inspired by the lineage of Tennessee bourbon and scotch casks.
Finished in scotch whisky casks from the Speyside region it’s what makes this blend unique.
Representatives for the brand say the barrels were brought to the States about a year ago from an undisclosed distillery.
These barrels were “adapted to our climate” before being toped up with the whiskey blend for an undisclosed finishing period. The final blend was bottled at around a high 114 proof.
The Sweetens Cove 22 secret recipe is very well kept, but blenders as we know distillers don’t like to give up their tricks of the trade.
But some bourbon lovers have revealed what a first sip of this bourbon feels like.
The notes immediately jump out on the nose and palate, brown sugar and honey that latter can also be found in the nice mouthfeel of the whiskey.
The balance of barrel ages is pleasant and well matched, as the bourbon neither feels young and green nor oaky and old it’s well placed in between.
And what does that scotch barrel finish bring to the whiskey? Not easy to say exactly, maybe it’s that honey note, a hint of malt or an extra hint of vanilla.
Sweetens Cove 22 went on the shelfs at $200 now available in Georgia and Tennessee, foreseen to be available in 10 more states over the next few weeks.
