The Iconic luxury British sports car Aston Martin and the high-end scotch whisky of Bowmore have come together to bring a new ultra-rare collaboration to the collectors’ market: The Bowmore Master’s Selection 21-Year-Old, Edition One. This scotch is a beautiful Islay single-malt scotch bearing the globally recognized Aston Martin badge coming in at about 103.6 proof. Bowmore has reportedly adopted more than the legendary Aston Martin branding for their latest outing but sought to retrieve something else from behind the wheels of the favorite sportscar of Ian Fleming’s Gentleman spy.
According to Maxim,
“This high-performance whisky marks the first time Bowmore has adopted the “Golden Ratio” principle – the mathematical ratio found in nature that creates aesthetically pleasing compositions – an aesthetic calculation behind the design of every Aston Martin automobile.”
The Golden ration is a mathematical principle passed through history from the Ancient Greeks in an attempt to numerically quantify aesthetic beauty. The Golden ratio is frequently found in nature and is believed to create organic and natural-looking compositions when used in design. In simple terms: from National Geographic, “Two numbers are in the golden ratio if the ratio of the sum of the numbers (a b) divided by the larger number (a) is equal to the ratio of the larger number divided by the smaller number (a/b)”.
Aston Martin’s Commitment To The Golden Ratio Applied to Scotch Whisky
Taking from the golden ratio mathematical principle and inspired by Aston Martin’s engineering approach which is built around it as well. The divine proportion of 61.8% is derived from 21-year-old Bowmore aged whisky in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks.
The remaining portions of the scotch are exacting ratios of each other including a 35-year-old Bowmore as well.
“Proportionality defines every precise detail of designing an Aston Martin,” Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, said. “We are constantly striving to achieve the Golden Ratio, the optimal of proportions. And it is this force which guides the creation of absolute beauty.”
“To achieve this, we must combine our skill, passion and experience. Coming together with Ron just brings a whole new perspective on this and is hugely inspiring and enlightening. This whisky perfectly and harmoniously brings us together to create a beautiful, yet powerful equilibrium.”
