Designer Turned a Dodge Viper V-10 Engine Into a Fire-Breathing Coffee Table

Because the 8.0-liter V-10 engine under the 2002 Dodge Viper’s hood puts out 450 hp and 490 pounds-feet of torque, that isn’t just something that you allow to go to waste. No, something that wild, that filled with the memory of unbridled power can’t simply be left to rot in the junkyard or melted down for scrap, it deserves new life and a place of reverence. We’re happy to report that at least one of these powerful engines has received just that treatment, being transformed into a beautiful piece of industrial modern art worth of any museum or body shop. It’s now a badass firebreathing coffee table.

RobbReport described the amazing piece, “The artist used the Viper’s massive 10-cylinder mill, which has been given a deep scrub so that it looks practically brand new, as the pit’s base. He then attached pistons and connecting rods to the engine block for use as legs and support. In images of the table Cobb posted to Facebook you’ll notice that there’s no surface, but that’s likely just to show off its fire pit capabilities. We imagine a simple glass top could be used to turn it into a fully functional coffee table.

From Dodge Viper V-10 Horsepower to Firepower

Automotive artist John Cobb, the creative mind behind Alaris invents has transformed the beating heart of a 2002 Dodge Viper into an impressive and worthy piece of craftsmanship harnessing the fiery spirit of the potent internet combustion engine, by rendering that combustion external, with ten jets of fire erupting from the exposed cylinders of the painstakingly cleaned and restored engine.

In a message to Motor1.com, Cobb explained,

“It’s his most ambitious project to date, as the goal wasn’t simply to build another engine-based table with flames in the middle. Each cylinder has its own burner and igniter, but in keeping with the car theme, all igniters are operated by a single key located at one end of the table. Similarly, all burners are fed propane by a single “gas” pedal, in this case, one that closely resembles a legit Viper pedal. As the video above shows, the table functions flawlessly. And whoa Nellie can it belt out the flames.”

Cobb told Motor1 that this table was built as a personal challenge based off of AlarisInvent’s previous V8 Table, and it was purchased almost immediately before it could even be advertised. However, he can build another to order for $11,500. It’s just our style though, repurposing something beautifully functional into something functionally beautiful.
