The Balmoral, the luxurious Rocco Forte Hotel in Edinburgh, has long been considered a must-visit location for whisky collectors traveling from all corners of the earth to the ancient seat of Scottish royalty and nobility, and home to some of the eldest and most prestigious Scotch experiences in existence. As of August 19th, 2021, there is another reason to visit the beautiful Balmoral: one of the most exclusive Scotch clubs on the planet. The hotel’s bar, already a hotspot for whisky fans with over five hundred labels in stock, many of them extremely rare, will host a joint effort with legendary distillery The MacAllan in launching their “ultra-exclusive partnership: The Scotch Club”.

According to a Press Release from The Balmoral,
“The Balmoral will be accepting 12 members of the Scotch Club this summer, with a waiting list opening for the remaining 23 keeps which will be released later this year. The exclusive offering starts from £710 ($979.85) for a 12-month membership, where guests will be able to access their own bottle of The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old, an icon of the distillery which brings together The Macallan’s unmistakable style with hand-picked sherry seasoned American and European oak casks. The top level of Scotch Club membership priced at £17,700 ($24,427.15) includes a bottle of The Macallan Red Collection 40 Years Old, which sits at the heart of the Macallan’s distinguished limited edition Red Collection. The Red Collection is a range of rare single malt Scotch whiskies created from some of the world’s oldest and rarest casks, to mark the Macallan’s deep respect for tradition and expertise.”

The whiskies themselves will be housed in a special individual whisky locker under lock and key in “the whisky keep” at the Balmoral’s renowned bar: SCOTCH, proudly emblazoned with the member’s name, accessible to only them or a designated guest they can arrange with The Balmoral should they wish to offer a dram to a visiting friend or relation.
Membership isn’t limited to an exquisite bottle of rare scotch and a fashionable place to keep it though, there is an entire experience built around them. Included with a membership these select connoisseurs receive:
