If cruise ship vacations are your thing, then look no further than this absolute monstrosity expertly named Icon of the Seas. This ship is the biggest ever built of its kind, with a capacity of 9,950 passengers and weighing in at 250,800 tonnes.

Cruise ships are often associated with vacations and leisure, but few can compare to the gargantuan size of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. This massive cruise ship is taking the maritime industry by storm and it’s no wonder why. With a length of 365 metres, almost 10,000 people on board and a cost exceeding $2 billion dollars, this floating city is one for the record books.

The process to create such an impressive vessel began in 2016 when Royal Caribbean first started designing what would soon become their most ambitious project yet. After several years of intense planning and development, construction began at Meyer Turku shipyard on Finland’s Baltic coast.

The entire endeavor was kept under tight security as thousands of skilled workers from around the world worked together day and night to bring this monstrosity to life.

The sheer scale of this mega-ship was such that there were no dry docks in existence big enough for it so Meyer Turku had to build one especially for it! Sophisticated machinery like two huge gantry cranes were used along with modular builds constructed elsewhere in Finland which were then lifted into position piece by piece.

It took a staggering 3,000-4,000 people to make sure everything went according to plan during construction and sea trials have already been conducted with success.

So now that we know more about how Icon Of The Seas came into being let’s take a look at what you can expect should you decide to book your tickets aboard this behemoth.

It has 40 restaurants and bars as well as 8 main areas known as “neighborhoods” which include Chill Island (with its largest swimming pool at sea), Surfside (complete with Splashaway Bay Baby Bay) Thrill Island (it has the largest waterpark on high seas) Crown’s Edge Hangs (where you can walk along a platform suspended 154ft above ocean)and much more.

You won’t run out things do aboard this boat – there’s even an immersive art experience called The Pearl made up from 3,000 moving kinetic tiles that change color in time with a futuristic sound track.

In conclusion it’s clear that Royal Caribbean have created something truly special here – not just another cruise ship but an engineering marvel like no other.
