Women don’t seem to understand that men never really grow up, they simply become four-year-olds who shave. Men also can’t resist playing with toys. For those of us who never outgrew Lego sets, there are ones to keep adults occupied for hours, and they fit any budget, too.
Tech Toys for big boys
Lego makes a line of really cool toys for adults. These fun and educational sets are called “Technic” and designed for kids from 9 to 90. At the low end of the price and complexity level are sets like Monster Jam El Toro Loco. There are cheaper kits but not as cool.
This one only sets you back $15.99. WB likes it because it’s a “2-in-1 Pull-Back Toy for Kids Who Love Monster Trucks.” For a few bucks more at $39.99 you can get a nifty Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. It also features pull back propulsion.
More than simple toys, bumping things up a notch or two price wise, the Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” lets you build a faithful version of the famous racing car from 1,677 little pieces for a mere $135.99. For another five bucks you can get the App-Controlled Transformation Vehicle. It has two different styles in one machine and even kids can run it with an app.
They say it’s a first for the Technic line because “this vehicle toy flips over when it drives into a wall to reveal the second vehicle. No wall? No problem!” Kids of any age, they note, “can turn the model over to switch vehicles.”
On one side of these toys you find an aerodynamic tracked racer, the other is a tracked exploration vehicle. It features a suspension, cockpit and tracks on both “plus a truck bed on the exploration truck.”
The unit is steerable from the app which “cleverly switches screens when the model flips.” Lego calls it a “great introduction to engineering” because the model features “realistic movement and mechanisms.”
At the higher end
Moving up in price above $200 brings more features and detail. Lego’s excited to announce the new BMW M 1000 RR Motorbike kit. These fancy toys faithfully model the racing bike at 1:5 scale for $229.99. That one packs 1,920 pieces.
The finished product is over 18 inches long and features “working suspension, a 3-speed gearbox, and chain transmission.” Then there’s the cream of the crop. a Lamborghini Sián FKP 37.
You can “experience the unmistakable power and looks of the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 as you become immersed in this LEGO® Technic™ building kit.” It’s only $379.99, which is a whole lot cheaper than the real thing. “With superb detailing, the model car is a faithful representation of the original Sián FKP 37 in eye-catching lime green with golden rims.” The beauty Lego says, is in the details.
“Authentic features include the 8-speed transmission, activated by the movable paddle gearshift, V12 engine with moving pistons, and 4-wheel drive. Use the steering wheel to position the car, then check out the front and rear suspension. Just like the full-size super sports car, this model car features classic scissor opening doors.” Those are the kinds of toys WB likes to find under the tree on Christmas morning.
These toys are treated with the respect they deserve. “Presented in a luxury box, it includes an exclusive coffee-table-quality book with building instructions, images and behind-the-scenes interviews.”
“Open the hood to discover your unique serial number and unlock special online content.” No batteries required.
