When you have nothing but money laying around, why not spend it on a wonderful and extensive car collection? That’s the thought process this one billionaire had, which led him to creating the world’s strangest collection of vehicles. Let’s take a look.
One of the world’s wealthiest men, Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan al Nahyan, recently unveiled his unique car collection at The Emirates National Auto Museum in Abu Dhabi. Unlike other billionaire collections, which tend to boast Ferraris and McLarens, this one is more eccentric and full of surprises.
Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan al Nahyan displays two giant replicas at The Emirates National Auto Museum. One is a massive model of a Land Rover Series 3 and the other is an impressive 21-foot replica of a Willys Jeep – certified by Guinness as the largest model ever created.
Both are fully operational and can be driven around the museum grounds for visitors to admire.
In addition to these two giant models, Sheikh Hamad also owns an original black 1948 Willys-Overland Jeepster that still has its original license plates intact. It’s an impressive piece given its rarity and age; it looks like it just drove off the showroom floor 72 years ago.
One of the most eye-catching pieces in this collection comes in the form of a white Mercedes-Benz W116 monster truck that was converted from a regular sedan. It’s definitely one for those who appreciate creative design work and custom vehicles.
To match his nickname “Rainbow Sheik”, Sheikh Hamad also has seven cars with multi colored paint jobs on them—including orange, yellow, green and blue hues inside their interiors to. He even owns a rainbow Fiat 500—a great addition to any collector’s garage.
Other interesting vehicles include an Erad Junior minicar from the 80s (one of only few remaining models), a blue Daihatsu Midget II (from mid 90s) along with two Ford Crown Victoria taxis from New York City. Lastly there is also large Dodge Power Wagon which apparently works perfectly fine despite its huge size.
