The Dalmore distillery’s extravagant luxury whisky has been making a ton of news lately owing to their amazing recent release of their 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Select Single Malt. But now they are changing the game completely with the Scottish distillery partnering with Sotheby’s Hong Kong to launch a one-of-a-kind auction of not only one, but SIX extremely rare whiskies produced over six decades. A collection worth an estimated half-million dollars at least. They’re calling it “The Dalmore Decades“.
How The Dalmore Counters A Rare Vintage Release: Release Several At Once
The eldest whisky is the seventy-year-old “Royal Spirit”. For comparison: the “Tales of The Macallan Volume I, The Laird of Easter Elchies” a comparable 71-year bottle being offered in a bound leather volume by their competitor The Macallan is going for about $82,700 by itself. The next bottles are 1967’s “Expertly Composed Spirit” and 1979’s “Curating Exquisite Casks.” Followed by the “Unbroken Chain of Visionaries” from 1980, 1995’s “The Creation of an Icon,” and “Into the New Millennium,” which entered casks at two minutes past midnight on January 1, 2000, making it the first whisky of the 21st century and the sixth millennium of recorded human history.
It would seem that The Dalmore’s competitive solution to The Macallan’s heavily publicized release of their ultra-rare vintage is to match it with a spectrum of rare drams.
According to hypebeast,
“Kicking off the partnership, The Dalmore has also created a short film titled Decades in the Making featuring master distiller Richard Paterson and architect Kengo Kuma.”
Announcing the auction, Paterson said:
“Over the past 50 years, I have kept a watchful eye over our superlative inventory of rare whiskies, giving them the guidance to mature and reach their full potential in the finest casks sourced from around the world. Each bottle marks a very special milestone and has a unique story to tell, which I hope the lucky collector will enjoy with those closest to them – if the last year has taught us anything, it is that life is to be enjoyed now.”
“The Dalmore Decades” collection is going to be made available via auction at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong on October 8th. It’s very likely a bottle or two will hit the secondary market shortly thereafter at a massively increased price point.
