Here’s a simple, yet delicious apple pie recipe that has been passed down through my family for generations. Perfect for your Thanksgiving dessert, or just a random treat, this pie will always be a hit.
Apple Pie
Ingredients
Crust
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2/3 cup slightly cooled butter
- 4 tbsp slightly cooled butter
- 5 tbsp cold water
Apple Filling
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Crust
- Mix flour, butter, and water until proper consistency for pie crust. Divide in half. Shape half of the crust dough into the pie tin, save other half for the top.
- Optional: Put a thin layer of jam (any flavor that won't overpower the apple) on the bottom pie crust to prevent it from becoming wet after adding the apple filling.
Filling
- Mix together apples, sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour into pie tin.
- Optional: Dot with just a few extra (small) pieces of butter evenly.
Top Crust
- Form a flat, round crust and fit it over the top of the pie tin. Cut lines into the crust, or simply stab with a fork throughout the top of the crust to create holes. You can create any pattern you want.
Baking
- Bake at 450 for 15 minutes.
- Reduce oven temperature to 350, continue baking for 35 minutes.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
