Three simple ingredients that you probably already have in your home can be mixed together to repel spiders and other unwanted insects!
Tired of having to kill spiders in your home? These terrifying, but often harmless arachnids enter our homes in search of shelter, water, and food, despite the fact that their diet consists of other insects, which are obviously in better supply outdoors. As much as we may enjoy the concept of having something in our house that will get rid of all of the pesky flies, gnats, moths, and other insects that may get inside and irritate us, no one wants spiders in their house.
Even worse, our homes not only give spiders a place to eat in comfort, they also are a place for them to reproduce.
Luckily, we have found a simple mixture that can be made using common items that will repel spiders, and will also make your house smell like Christmas year round!
Spiders apparently hate peppermint. Peppermint oil is commonly used to treat motion sickness, headaches, and many other issues, so a lot of people already have it in their house! If not, you can buy some on Amazon, Walmart, and at many other stores.
Here are the simple steps to making this spider repellant (You will need a 16 ounce spray bottle, water, peppermint oil, and dish soap):
- Fill a 16 ounce spray bottle with water.
- Then, add 5-10 drops of peppermint oil and one teaspoon of dish soap.
- Shake well.
- Spray around doors, windows, dark corners, and the outside perimeter of your home. Do this once a week! It may sound tedious, but it beats dealing with spiders, and it’s definitely better than using toxic repellants indoors.
As an extra precaution, you should also make sure that your home is well-sealed by repairing any torn screens, caulking door frames and windows, and fixing any cracks in walls and floors. Also, don’t forget to remove any spider webs as soon as you find them (both indoors and on the outside of your home).
If you don’t feel like going through the trouble of making the spider repellant mix yourself, Amazon does sell an all-natural peppermint spider repellant spray for around $20, and so does Walmart.
