Thanksgiving just wouldn’t feel right without some delicious stuffing to go with your turkey. This classic recipe will leave your guests asking for seconds, no matter how full they already are.
Stuffing
Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 5 stalks celery finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh sage chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme chopped
- 3 cups low sodium chicken or turkey broth
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley chopped
- 16 cups stale cubes of country white bread cut into 1/2 inch squares
- 2 tbsp fat from turkey drippings (or butter)
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Butter a 3 quart baking dish.
- Melt the stick of butter in a pot. Add the onion, celery, sage, and thyme. Season with salt and pepper if desired.
- Cook, stirring consistently, until the vegetables are tender. This should take about five minutes.
- Add the broth, and bring to a boil, then remove from the heat.
- Whisk eggs and parsley in a large bowl. Add bread and the vegetable mixture and stir until combined.
- Put in the baking dish, and drizzle with turkey drippings or dot with butter. Season with paprika.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake until golden, which should take around 25 to 30 more minutes.
