2022 is upon us y’all. And there is no better way to start the new year than with a laugh. In today’s video we have a brief one minute collection of some of the best gun fails, courtesy of military.com. Some are just plain stupid, others ignorant, and others, must have been a dare. But all are hilarious. From their failures we can enjoy a laugh and learn how to not do what they did.
#1 Experiment in Recoil
So this first gun fails clip must have been a dare. That, or this guy actually thought he could hold the gun like this and was strong and fast enough to stop it from smacking him square in the face. He was wrong about all of it. Not strong enough, not fast enough, and doubled over in pain as his friends laugh at his massive stupidity. That looked like that hurt to. The gun came back with such thunderous recoil, he quite possibly could have broken his nose, jaw, or both.
This is not how you hold a rifle. A rifle platform is designed to be held with 3 points of contact to the shooters body. One hand on the grip and trigger. Another hand on the forward grip under the barrel. And the last one is the butt-stock on the shooters upper torso/shoulder area. When you take a rifle and hold it with a sloppy 2 hand pistol grip, be prepared for the punishment that will result if you pull that trigger. This man is now well educated own what not to do.
#2 Punched By A Shotgun
In the next gun fails clip we see a lady holding a pistol grip shotgun incorrectly. She has the weapon out in front of her face, which would be correct if this weapon had a butt stock, but it does not. She is ignorant of how to hold this weapon safely and correctly. And now she has to pay for it. Her head is lined up nicely to the sights, but when she pulls that trigger, it comes back with a punch to the face she will not soon forget.
The correct way to hold a 12 gauge pistol grip shot gun without a stock is down low on the body, with contact. Allowing your hip/lower torso to be bracing the rear of the weapon. This is called a hip fire. You can not safely look down the sights of a weapon such as this without extensive training. She obviously does not have that as we can clearly see here. This is why I do not prefer pistol grip shotguns without a stock of some sort. Hip fire shooting is grossly inaccurate without training in intuitive shooting. Intuitive shooting is the ability to hit a target you can not see and or to hit a target while hip firing. This also requires extensive training to begin to master. It can be taught, but obviously the shooter here has not been schooled in this regard.
#3 Rifle Knockout
This clip is hilarious. Here we have a military training session occurring where this greenest of green rookies is being taught how to fire a bull-pup rifle. It is the French FAMAS Assault Rifle. A high rate of fire weapon that due to it’s bull-pup design has more recoil than you would expect. And this recruit learns the hard way, with a smack to the face. To the untrained eye, it may seem like he was doing everything correct. Let me break it down on why he was doomed with a gun fail video from the get go.
We’ll start from the bottom, his feet. They are all wrong. Dominant foot is too far back and turned out towards the cameraman at about a 45 degree angle. And his feet are not even shoulder width apart. He has a shaky foundation to fire from. Next, his back. He is leaning with his back arched away from the weapon. His hips are forward and he is allowing the weapon to control him already before firing.
Next, the hands. This is the most egregious error of this recruit here. He is utilizing a type of grip that is appropriate only when you are operating a bipod mounted weapons system in the prone position, not standing erect and all leaned back like you’re scared. This effectively gives him only 2 points of contact to control recoil on a platform that demands 3 points of contact, especially a bull-pup rifle! The best part is when the instructor says “ok good,” after the shooter gets slapped in the face and reeled back. Good lesson learned on how not to fire a FAMAS rifle.
#4 Flight of the Shotgun
The lady here in this gun fails clip is adorably oblivious on what is about to happen. If I was to guess, I’d say the guys behind the camera set her up to fail here. Which is dangerous yes, but funny here. She is standing with the pistol grip 12 gauge like the girl before, but here she is almost holding the weapon correctly. She has it low to her hip, not in line with her face. However, can you spot her errors? Their 3 fold.
First off, she has a loose grip on the weapon. Her hands are not tight and her arms are relaxed. They should be the opposite. Firm grip and locked arms. Second, she is holding the weapon off to the side of her body. She is not stabilizing the back of the grip on her hip/lower torso to absorb the recoil. And third, her feet and stance are all wrong. I don’t have to see what her feet are actually doing to tell that she is too relaxed with an ineffective body posture to stop this recoil. She is lazily standing erect and slightly leaned back. A foundation for failure, every time. And when she pulls that trigger, her reaction and embarrassment is a lesson well learned.

#5 Do NOT try this at home
This is insane. This is a child, about 4 years old, holding a gun that is taller than him. I’m not against a child this young learning to shoot, but this is not the way. This weapon is much too large for this child. He is holding it under his arm, and elevated, which is already allowing the weapon to control the child. Look at how he has to lean back just to maintain the weight. This rifle is bound to hit him in the face, and it does. The camera guy tells him to shoot and the recoil flings the rifle dangerously up into his face, and he’s down on the ground. Much to the camera man’s enjoyment.
For this child, the only safe and effective way to shoot this weapon would be from a prone position, laying down. The weapon needs a mounted bipod or other stabilization for the barrel and he needs to be positioned properly behind it. None of the weight of this gun needs to be bared by the little boy. Whoever set this kid up, did it to watch him fail. That is a sick sense of humor to me, but this guy loved it. And like the title says do NOT try this at home.
#6 Pain and Recoil
Here we see the male version of the pistol grip shotgun to the face gun fail. This ignorant shooter was positioned just like the other girl. Shotgun was out in front so his eyes could be lined up with the sights. Seems like a good idea. Until it’s not. His friend and cameraman tells him to “go anytime,” and then bang, smack, hilarious. And then for a bonus we get to see that in a slow motion instant replay. Look at how that gun smacked the left side of his face and chin. That’s gotta’ hurt!
Just like before, this man is not strong enough and trained enough to manage a 12 gauge recoil holding the weapon in this way. His stance is garbage. Lazy and erect. His dominant arm his stuck out to the side like a chicken wing. And his forward gripping hand is as loose as a whore on Sunday morning. Add all that up to get slapped in the face by Miss Shotty McNaughty. You best show her respect and treat her right or she’ll hurt the shooter as well as the target.
#7 Dirty Harry Would Not Be Pleased
You got that right! This guy, Kurt, is not ready to one hand a revolver of this size. I’m not sure the caliber, but if it’s a .44 magnum like Dirty Harry had, this kid is in for a mule kick from a handgun. Kurt gives us a thumbs up to start off showing he’s confident and good to go. This boy don’t know what he don’t know. He sets up for a one handed shot and then he unleashes the fury. Bang and the gun catapults into a series of backflips, exiting Kurts grip, and flipping to the ground as Kurt runs away in fear and embarrassment.
By now you can probably begin to see what Kurt did wrong. Start with the stance. Lazy and leaning back with hips out in front. Feet turned sideways with the dominant foot forward. All wrong. And a single hand grip is just plain moronic with a revolver of this size. Even with 2 hands, Kurt would have given us a hilarious video. His one hand grip is looser than a 50 year old Porn Star. The gun almost hit him in the face too. He’s lucky only his pride was injured here.
#8 The Rifle Strikes Back
This one is a classic gun fail. I’ve seen this video multiple times and it gets funnier every time. Here we have a rookie shooter who at first glance seems to be doing things correctly. For the few seconds you see him before he fires, all seems to be in place. Hands, butt-stock, head, can’t see the feet but all seems well. And then he pulls the trigger. A massive blast vaults the weapon up and back, out of his hands and vertical, not good. The gun falls to the floor as he jumps back away scared as a long tailed cat in a room for of rocking chairs.
Here’s where this guy failed. Looks at his lower center torso. See how it is forward? Follow his back and shoulders to see he is not correctly leaning forward. He is incorrectly leaning backward, already allowing the rifle to control him. From there you will discern that his dominant arm is sticking out like a chicken wing and that the gun is actually incorrectly in his armpit. Add to this his off hand and arm are barely supporting the weight of the gun, and not locked in a tight position to absorb recoil. As we have seen throughout this video, this is a formula for failure.
Thankfully no one was seriously hurt in this video. However, improper manipulation of firearms can easily lead to serious bodily harm or the death of the shooter and anyone else in range. Let these hilarious lessons be a way for you to see how to properly hold and fire these commonly disrespected and often dangerously handled firearms. High speed steel to the face is what you don’t want to happen, duh.
